Instant Ecstasy is all about one of the most unique mediums of all time – instant film. May it be classics like polaroid film or the well mourned peel-apart-film, modern takes like Instax film, or obnoxiously weird choices like the Gameboy Camera that originally would only be able to print the image taken right away lest it be lost forever, this challenge embraces them all!
The Challenge:
From 24th September to 30th November @( ◍•ᴗ•◍)。.゚jesse✧* and me want to shine a light on anything instant! Any camera is allowed no matter the size or capability – from your modded Fuji Instax camera to 3D-printed adapters for your large format shenanigans. The only requirement is that the camera allows for immediate processing right on the spot.
Also instant photography doesn’t end with the image! Especially with polaroid many creative techniques for postwork have evolved over time, while Instax allows for fun experiments with topics like solarization. Even printing them at large like HPB only did recently can provide new perspectives!
Apart from celebrating the medium this challenge has two goals:
The Exchange:
Nothing compares to getting the gift of a unique artwork. Hence the challenge aims for a small print exchange that is meant to fall in date with Christmas. You don’t have to gift the instant image as you obtain it out of camera, but you can also go for an emulsion lift for example, if that’s something you’re into. Just make sure it is the unique photo and not just a reproduction of it and send it off in time so it will arrive at Christmas!
The Zine:
Depending on participation and results it would provide a worthy endeavour for another OMS Zine. Hence I would ask all participants to document their results before they get sent off.
