Mid-January Wrap-Up

Hello collective members! Hailing this week from the frozen Midwest, U.S.A. Hopefully those members experiencing extreme weather this week are staying safe, and if so, grabbing some beautiful photos. My name is OwlEye, an artist and Fine Arts student from Kansas, focused on digital street photography and post-processing. Together with Kacie, my partner and 31-year-old African Grey parrot, we travel the run-down ancient ruins of old Kansas City in search of the beauty that can be found in the abandoned and long forgotten districts of the city. For more information you can find me on Instagram @OwlEyeArt or www.OwlEyeArt.com.

Member Challenges

Update: A NEW Fortnight Challenge has dropped!

  • Fortnight Challenge:

    • Open to all members, laid back posting according to a bi-weekly (14-day, or “fortnight”) photo theme. Click here to participate!

Gallery Gems

A selection of recent images from our members.

This past week we’ve seen a tremendous showing of Gallery posts, so this week we’re bringing you several gems. Thank you to all our members who share their work and to the members who show their love in the comments with critiques and support. Our community grows stronger because of you all. Thank you!

Fabri

From Gallery: “some shots from a quick Dubai work trip”

In this set from Dubai, Fabri brings us images captured on Portra 400 and Fuji 400/200. Aside from the beautiful rendering of color of this stock, Fabri captures unique compositions such as this shot of a van in a vehicle garage. Three views captured in one shot.

Neutrinissimo

From Gallery: “A few rare digital images (from yesterday)”

Neutrinissimo took advantage of some cold, snowy conditions to bring us this set of gorgeous photos including this little, red house in the trees. Capturing my eye here is gorgeous use of only three colors, a wonder color-theory trick.

Sethie

From Gallery: “Foggy morning here on a New Zealand rural lifestyle block.”

Captured on Fujifilm X-H1, Sethie brings us a truly wonderful set of photos showing that an artist can find color in the greyest of scenes. The beautiful use of simple foreground color on foggy grey background adds to the impact of these soft shots.

Peter

From Gallery: “Snow + flash vol2

Continuing a series of snow shots, Peter hit upon a wonderful set with this gallery. Using a unique combination of what appears to be quick shutter, shallow depth, and flash, Peter captures remarkable large, white bokeh ball snow flakes. Complimenting these are a subtle touch of color on the black night. Remarkable renderings here.

blue squares

From Gallery: “50mm, 6 miles, and 7 blisters”

Our resident busy-body, Blue Squares, got around town with a new 50mm (and paid the price in blisters) to bring us some truly impactful street shots. While we’re highlighting only the wonderful street car shot here, we encourage you to also take note of the architectural shots that Blue has been working on in their gallery. As one member mentions, reminiscent of Hélèn Binet.

Pebble

From Gallery: “cyber-pictorialism portraits”

Pebble continues their experimentations with “cyber pictorialism” in this seductive set. A custom process involving several mediums from film to video synth to digital. A truly beautiful, yet hauntingly cyber-punk vibe that continues to impress. We look forward to where this style takes Pebble in the future.

eeenmacine

From Gallery: “Hip to be square”

This week eeenmachine brings us more of the soft, ethereal street shots that they’re becoming famous for. Beautifully composed, minimal, soft, timeless. There is a dreamy-remembrance vibe to eeenmachine’s street work that combines a wonderful balance of street, architecture, geometry and story-telling that always catches the eye.

Emre T.

From Gallery: “Exhibit Visiting [13.01]”

And finally, we wish to give a shout out to Emre T. for their gallery visit to see works of Turkish sculptor, Y. Bahair Yildiz (website: found here.)

As a personal note, much of my inspiration in photography comes from absorbing myself into the art of others, from music and painting, to visiting exhibits and museums. It is a pleasure to see Emre T. utilizing their artistic talent of photography to capture the work of other artists. Not only does this help spark the flame of creativity in the photographer to see other artists’ expressions, but it captures the artwork that existed in this space for this time.

I encourage all our members to venture out and see more shows, tour more museums and help support local and global artists by visiting their shows and photographing their work. Thank you for your contributions, Emre.

Final Notes

Thank you to our artist-members for their contributions to our Gallery. You all help us grow each week by sharing and commenting on member galleries. Each week we pick some favorites from the gallery for sharing to the collective, so if you’d like to showcase your work and possibly be chosen for display in the Blog, make sure to keep posting in the Gallery.

Final note, please keep up to date on the Announcement channel for updates on new challenges and collabs with the community.

Enjoy the remainder of January. My name is Owl Eye. On behalf of myself and the rest of the OMS Blog editors, Ezo and Lunar, we wish you the best in your photographic journey. We will be back next week with another update from One More Stop!
