Hey, hey it’s the weekend! This week we’re tap-dancing on in with some rapid-fire hits from the gallery, a new collaboration and I’m going to plug the start of my monthly gallery! So, without further ado, here’s a link to my February gallery. For those of you who are new to the program, I upload at least one photo a day to all my social media. I also keep a record of it on the OMS discord. I always appreciate a follow, a friendly comment, critique, or even just a reaction! With that out of the way, let’s dig into what’s been going on in the gallery this week. It’s been a very busy week and if I had it my way, I’d probably pick every single gallery to feature. But that would be impractical, so let’s dive into my picks for the week.
Gallery Gems

All right now, for all you boppers out there in the big city, all you street people with an ear for the action, there’s a neon duck ready to show you a world of psycho-delica action. Excuse my odd sense of humor, but the neon wildness in the_abcedarian’s gallery really inspired me to look at his photos through the lens of a wild dream in technicolor magic. Check it out for some amazing photos from the land of broken dreams: Las Vegas.

I am a birder at heart, and I even started the OMS Bird Club, so when I see great bird photos I’m definitely going to be drawn to them. Sparrows are not particularly rare birds, most birders might not even bother photographing one because birding can be a bit like playing Pokemon and there’s no point in collecting something so common. But, praetor saw a good pose and snapped this absolutely great shot. Check out praetor’s gallery for a few more great bird shots!

For anyone not following the ongoing discussions in the developing channel, Edison has been doing an impressive amount of testing to establish empirical data on film development and exposure. It’s been really fascinating to follow along with and since he recently posted a collection of his tests, I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight this spectacular shot of a covered crucifix. In addition to just having some spectacular exposure, the subject matter is really poignant, and I think inspires a lot of different feelings, dependent on your own background and relationship to Catholic iconography. Hit the gallery for more or check out his Instagram.
The OMS Zine Gallery
As you may have seen in our announcements, and I’ll be going into more depth below, OMS is working towards a new zine. To that end, we are making a call for members to suggest photos for use in the zine. If you have any photos submitted between December to February please let us know and nominate them.

The Daido Royale Part 2 – On Coolpix Now and Never Again
Managed by Hot Pink Bulb

You may or may not be familiar with legendary photographer Daido Moriyama. If you aren’t, take a moment to hop over to youtube and watch some videos, like this documentary. Moriyama’s work is typified as grainy, blurry, and even *gasp* out of focus. There are a large number of books you can also buy, my personal favorite is the recent reprint of his book called Hokkaido. Before reading it, I didn’t really have a strong appreciation for his work. But a familiar setting and context helped me connect with his work.
So now, we’re all going to be using his ethos and style as a guide to refresh our own work. This is a fairly rigorous collaboration, with a lot of submissions and a fast pace. If you’re up for a challenge, head over to the thread and check it out.
And that’s all from me for this week! Remember we still have the ongoing Fortnight Challenge collaboration, Everyday Carry, The Liquid Challenge, Mirror Selfies, and Ben’s thermal printer still running. Now, let’s get out there and shoot some pictures!
Bye-bye!
